What to wear in Hawaii

hawaii

ALOHA friends! Hawaii is one the most beautiful places you can travel to. When it comes to Hawaii and most tropical places it’s almost a no-brainer to assume we will only need summer clothes. Although what you wear might vary depending on the season, you might be surprised when an occasional rain hits you.

I recently visited Oahu, Hawaii during early June so it was sort of hot and humid. Before leaving I made sure I knew what “To” and “Not To” wear.

Sundresses & Skirts

Hawaii is known for its tropical humid weather, loose clothing is the best option. The number one clothing item I recommend for Hawaii weather is sundresses and flowy skirts. You can’t go wrong wearing long maxi dresses and long flowy skirts that allow you to stay cool. Choose thin cooling fabrics that are not too cottony, if that makes sense. The comfortable feeling of a long skirt that still allows you to look cute is the best.

In the photo below, I am wearing x Sofia Richie Manina Maxi Skirt by House of Harlow from Revolve. I love the Safari vibes because I can either dress it up with heels or simply wear it with tennis shoes for a day of walking and adventure. Revolve has many options that are adequate for Hawaii so make sure you look at brands such as Majorelle, Tularosa, and House of Harlow.

Flowy Tops

My second option is to wear flowy tops that have breathable fabric. Chose light pastel colors for a more cooling feel. Tight cottony shirts can be too hot and make you sweaty and uncomfortable. I recommend bringing a pair of denim shorts to pair your flowy tops with. I wouldn’t recommend bringing denim pants as it gets too hot and humid. This Revolve top is from Tularosa called “Parker Top” in light yellow.

Bikinis

Of course! We are on an island, Hello!! Bring lots of bikinis because you will likely visit a new beach every day. Also, don’t forget your cover-up. Unless you are a free-spirited individual who feels comfortable walking around in thong bikinis. Go, Girl!

If I had to choose my favorite bikinis from Revolve it would be from the Camila Coelho Collection. Camila (the designer) is from Brazil and I feel that energy in her designs. They all have a tropical upscale feel that I love. You might love it too! I am wearing the Bonita One Piece from the Camila Coelho Collection in Nude.

Shoes

A good pair of flip-flops will do. If you like to change it up I recommend a pair of tennis shoes. If you plan on going hiking, then a good pair of hiking shoes is recommended. Those hikes do get muddy!

Umbrella

Most people in Hawaii don’t carry umbrellas. When I was in Hawaii in early June, it would rain for about 5 minutes then it would stop. It was fine for me and I didn’t need an umbrella but the rain does get heavier during winter. Nevertheless, if you don’t like getting wet, then bring an umbrella.

Here are other things you might consider:

  • Underwater Camera
  • Hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Cash
  • Waterproof phone case
  • Sunblock
  • Floatie
  • Water Shoes
  • Cooling bottle, to carry water
  • Bug spray
  • Aloe Gel

I hope I was helpful in planning your trip to Hawaii! This was one of my favorite trips! There is so much to do in Hawaii. One piece of advice is to book your activities early as they do sell out. Mahalo for your time reading this. : )
