My Postpartum Health Routine

Postpartum- The 4th Trimester

Postpartum- a new exciting and challenging chapter. I didn’t realize that the postpartum period is actually the 4th trimester. It is a chapter that needs care for both baby and mom. Living a healthy lifestyle has always been my number one priority. Before having my first baby, I would work out every single day, eat healthy foods, take my vitamins, and read self-help books. Now more than ever I need to stay healthy for myself and for my baby.

It was a very scary feeling not knowing how I was ever going to go back to my healthy routine after having my first baby. Throughout pregnancy, I didn’t have the energy to work out or eat healthily. The postpartum period is the period of readjusting and figuring out how you can go back to feeling like yourself again. But let’s face it, you are a new person now so the goal is to create this new self that you are happy with. Starting over was hard but I made sure I researched and figured out what my body needed after going through such a dramatic period.

Lifestyle + Fitness

The key is to start, whatever stage you’re at. It’s never too late. I am slowly starting to feel like myself again. At 4 months postpartum, I joined the gym. It was hard because I had lost a lot of muscle mass but just sweating it out on the treadmill made me feel so much better and happier. Take your time and go at your own pace. You’ll eventually get to your goals but give yourself time. You’ve just delivered a baby and that’s huge!

Nutrition + Vitamins

It is also important to incorporate healthy foods into your diet to repair and fuel your body. I remember my doctor telling me that delivering a baby is equivalent to running a marathon. Wow! Having my daily green juice was a must. (Click here if you need a green juice recipe.) That way, I got my veggies and fruits taken care of then I could eat more of the things I liked. Vitamins and supplements are also important in the postpartum period. I came across Nordic Naturals and decided to try their Postnatal Omega-3 supplements.

Omega-3s are super important because they deliver key nutrients your body and mind need after having a baby. Postnatal Omega-3 offer a significant amount of omega-3 EPA+DHA, and vitamin D3 that both you and your baby need.

I’ve been taking these for a while and I noticed they help my mood, keeping me happy and calm.* I never knew I needed them until I tried them. I specifically love these from Nordic Naturals because they don’t have a fishy taste but rather a taste sort of lemony.

Baby Vitamins

Nordic Naturals also has Baby’s Vitamin D and Baby’s DHA. As always, check with your pediatrician to make sure you can give these to your baby or if he or she would benefit from them. Baby’s DHA is a trusted source of omega-3 DHA—an essential fat your baby needs for a healthy brain, eye, and nervous system development.* Baby’s Vitamin D3 liquid makes it easy to give your baby the daily dose of vitamin D that is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics to support healthy infant development.*

My baby is taking supplements every other day. They are easy to give as they come with a dropper so you can put it in their bottle or put a drop on your finger and put it in their mouth.

I always like to know what goes into my baby’s body and I loved that Baby’s Vitamin D3 is made with organic extra virgin olive oil. Vitamin D may also help support normal sleep cycles.*

I hope I inspired you on how to get back on track after delivering your baby. Always remember that your body is amazing for the things it can do so take good care of it.
