It’s a Doggy Holiday!

Who still loves you even when you don’t let him/her in the house with dirty muddy paws or when you get stuck at work all day and miss playtime? Your dog does! Don’t forget who always loves you unconditionally this holiday season! Wrap your furry one some natural dog treats in a gift box or fill their stockings with delicious treats!

I’ve partnered with True Chews for this blog post to tell you about their natural dog treats. My dog loves them. They also smell so tasty! Have you met my Dalmatian? His name is Tommy and if he could, he would eat the whole bag!

Natural Dog Treat Benefits

I’m a big animal lover and believe pets are part of the family. True Chews also believes so. They also believe dogs serve as companions and make us happy.  These natural dog treats were created with that concept in mind but they are also great for the following reasons:

  • All products are made in the USA
  • Chickens are raised with no antibiotics
  • Formulated with no added hormones or steroids.
  • Made with 100% natural ingredients
  • No Artificial Flavors, Preservatives, or Animal By-Products
True Chews carries these in many different flavors including chicken, steak, duck, and turkey.

What Ingredients to Look for in Dog Treats

Never give your dog human cooked food! Unless you specifically prepared it for your dog such as boiling some chicken, then it’s ok. Our food has lots of seasoning and salts that don’t sit well with a dog’s stomach. Don’t believe me? Try their food. I have done it out of curiosity and what I noticed is that it needs some salt!

When looking at treats to buy for your dog, always look at the ingredients and see how many are there. It shouldn’t be a huge list, and if it is then you know it is full of chemicals and who knows what.

The premium jerky cuts from True Chews that I purchased for Tommy have only 8 ingredients, that is awesome! If you didn’t know, the first ingredient is the most important one. For my bag, the first ingredient is chicken, meaning the treats are mostly chicken.

When to Give Your Dog a Treat

Some people make the mistake of giving their dog a treat out of boredom. No No! Don’t’ overfeed either. Your dog is a little learning machine and whatever you teach him, he will remember and repeat it.

Always reward your dog for good behavior. Never give your dog a treat when he is in an over-stimulated state of mind. I like to make my dog do something before I give him a treat; just so he gets used to working for that yummy jerky cut. He either sits, gives me his paw, bark, roll over, or go outside and use the bathroom. Tommy does it all and gets rewarded for it.

I used True Chews as a way to get Tommy to cooperate with the neighbors. He usually barks a lot at them but I would tell him to be quiet and when he did I would give him a treat and sure enough, he learned his lesson. Dogs are smarter than you think and they will memorize the meaning of words.

PS: Did you know your dog can smell at a distance at about 60 feet? A dog’s nose is also the most important part of his brain? Therefore, a yummy treat has a lot of power in getting your dog to follow your orders.
