The Creepy Side of Marketing

creepy marketing

The truth about marketing. What is real?

What is the truth about marketing? Ok Ok here we go! I know I work in Marketing and this is a little contradicting but I just want to help others see this side of reality. Maybe it will open your eyes a bit to notice the world we live in.

We are Programmed

We are programed and influenced by our society. Our society is made up of marketing. We see ads everywhere that target our “LOWER SELF”. What I mean by “LOWER SELF” is that part of us that wants to “fit in” with society and be considered as “normal”. We all want to be liked and not made fun of; It’s in our nature. If we are somehow different than the norm, we are considered as “weird”, and to our current brain programing, being weird is bad.

Animal Instincts

We all have different parts in our brains. One of them is the animal part and this part of our brain is instinctive. The animal part of our brain is the part that comes from evolution. The irrational parts in your brain or the “animal parts” respond to basic needs such as: food, water, sex, love, and all your basic needs. This is the part Marketers use to target you. They use this part of you to convince you to buy certain things to fulfill these basic needs. These mechanisms in your mind function subconsciously, so you don’t notice. We all have them.

Feelings

Marketing and businesses need your attention to sell you stuff. They pay billions of dollars to get “eye balls” or people to see these ads and maybe take some action. Ads, billboards, t.v shows, commercials, sports, etc. are all ways that business use to sell you an idea, lifestyle or feeling.

Fulfilling your Lower Self

I am not saying business or marketing agencies are evil, that is their job and how they make a living. These marketing tactics only target your “lower self” not your higher self. The following are traps society makes you fall for:

  • Junk food
  • Celebrities
  • Romance and sci fi fantasy novels,
  • Video games
  • T.V shows
  • Prestigious schools
  • Clothes
  • News Industry
  • Social media
  • Popular culture
  • Status game
  • Fancy clothes
  • Fancy cars
  • Porn
  • Shopping
  • Holidays
  • Nightclubs

These all target your lower self. You want all these things because they all fulfill certain “animal” needs that we all have.

The typical 9 to 5 job is another way we are caged. We are born and then raised to believe that we are now old and we must have a job. A job to be able to buy things to fulfill our animal needs. Most people hate their jobs, but remain there because they must fulfill their basic needs. I’m talking about jobs that are just “jobs” not a career you actually enjoy.

Sports

What is sports? who invented them? Loyalty to your team that you grew up cheering for? What is that good for?  This is all “EGO” stuff. What is professional sports? People buy $2,000 tickets to go sit front row and watch their favorite team. What for? answer: to fulfill that egotistical need that makes you feel good watching them. It makes you happy to watch a game doesn’t it? So this is what marketing companies take advantage of. Your want and need to fit into society by liking a certain team and going to games. Your need to fit in with the rest of society.

Everything is an Escape

You need to wake up to the idea that everything I have mentioned is an escape. An escape to what true life really is. Yes sports and watching your favorite t.v shows make you happy but what is really going on?  All these distractions that make you happy and fulfilled only target your lower self but what targets your higher self? Do you even know or understand what that is?

What our modern society really is, is an amusement park for the ego. To distract you from looking inward. Notice that all these things are all pointing you out to the “outward”, to distract you from looking inward. It is a distraction from truth, from consciousness. You are not living a real life.

Society doesn’t care about helping you find your real self. It doesn’t care about helping you to “be” but just cares about keeping you “busy” distracted from your true self.

It is fully in your power to avoid these traps. Business makes it easy for you to fall into all these traps. But if you have enough conscious mind to recognize these traps and have a healthy conscious lifestyle, you can avoid them. All it takes is some awareness.

If you do practice living a conscious life, you will however be labeled weird by such a society who already follows most of the lower self pleasing norms. It is rare to find people who who choose to live their lives in awareness but it is a path you must take in order to live a conscious life. The key is not to participate in anything that makes you happy, but to be fully aware of what you are doing and your purpose for doing so.

Peace and Happiness to you!
