How to Have More Confidence

Stop Caring What People Think

Do you sometimes hesitate to do what you love or say what you want because of fear of what people might think? If yes, then you might need a boost in confidence! Or you might be thinking way too much of a certain situation when nobody really cares. The good news is, anyone can experience a lack of confidence from time to time. So, before we go any further, your first lesson should be ’you are not alone in this’.

Confidence is described as, a feeling of self-assurance arising from one’s appreciation of one’s own abilities or qualities. Unfortunately, you might not feel this certainty in yourself on most days but that can easily be improved. Here’s how to be more confident and ultimately stop caring what people think.

6 Steps to Boost Your Confidence

1. Learn your strengths and weaknesses

Ironically, getting to know yourself can be challenging. There’s often some confusion between who you think you should be and who you really are. Becoming confident involves healthy self-esteem. This is a quality you can develop by knowing where your strengths and weaknesses lie. Discover the things you excel at that bring you happiness and other things that are the opposite. This helps to groom fulfillment and confidence simultaneously. Learn to Love Yourself. (read post on How to Love)

2. Change your core beliefs

What do you know about confidence? Some people believe it means being all-knowing, not caring what others think and never failing. Such beliefs can limit you and your individual growth. Confidence means being able to pick yourself up when you fail and being able to accept criticism and use it to improve. Just know that nobody is perfect and we all have our own insecurities that we are battling with.

3. Overcome self-doubt

Translation– simply believe in yourself! This can be a process but once you learn to believe you can do anything, you are able to accomplish anything you set your mind to. Wake up each morning with self-assuring thoughts, take bold purposeful footsteps, and stand up straight. Silence all small voices that tell you negative things and focus solely on the positive. Also, try to challenge yourself. Start with achievable tasks and then climb higher. Celebrate each achievement and savor the victory. These small steps will help you overcome self-doubt and boost your confidence.

4. Get involved in activities

Helping others can be a real boost in your confidence. It gives your life a purpose knowing you helped those in need. Volunteer at the kid’s shelter or help save animals. Even cleaning up the beach will make you feel like you are important and needed in life. This will definitely be a confidence boost.

5. Turn to Spirituality

Often times we feel like lost in this world and out of place. This can lead to feeling confused, and not very confident. I believe spirituality is super helpful in making you feel connected to the world. It helps you understand how your life should be lived in order for you to be happy. For me, it’s the belief in God that keeps me feeling whole. Knowing that there is something much greater than I am and that I am created for a purpose, is a real boost in confidence.

6. No more pleasing others

A lot of us are plagued with the constant thoughts of what people think. We sometimes assume they all have the same opinion of us. Well, in life there are only two categories of people- those who agree with you and those who don’t. You can’t change this. Hence, your only options are to accept it or hide. Be like a duck and let such thoughts roll off your back like water. Do things for you and watch your confidence soar.

MY TIP

Truth is everyone is so consumed with their own lives that you really don’t matter to them. They might be thinking about what to eat for dinner, how bad their cramps are, how to get their ex back…. so many issues that nobody really cares about you and your issues. That’s a big relief! One thing to know is that the embarrassment will be over in just a couple minutes. On the plus side, circumstances that make you feel uncomfortable, actually help you grow and be more confident. Whenever you think you said or did something embarrassing remember this:

THOSE WHO MATTER DON’T CARE AND THOSE WHO CARE DON’T MATTER.

Much Love
